Vulnerability in a strong world
Every month my friends church do a girls only meeting (and , we are this month I attended my first one). We are given a topic and just speak (yep just like the sleepovers at childhood, all that’s missing is hot coco, a blanket and the PJ’s). One of the questions was:
‘How do you feel about being vulnerable?’
An interesting question for a society taught to keep their guards up. Where crying is a weakness and failing is never an option. Then I remember that it is our vulnerable moments that make us human, that remind us who we are and that shape our attitudes for life.
I can pin point moments where I have been publically vulnerable (aka humiliated) and although they stick in my head like an unwelcomed puss filled pimple (yuck), they teach me valuable lessons, and open me up to people who want to help.
So let’s all stop sticking our noses above the clouds and come back down to earth for a while. Lets cry when we need to; embrace failure as tomorrows opportunities and learn, learn, learn. When you are vulnerable your true strength is revealed.
“When we were children, we used to think that when we were grown-up we would no longer be vulnerable. But to grow up is to accept vulnerability… To be alive is to be vulnerable.”
